THE Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is proposing to sell off a property it owns on the outskirts of Stratford known as The Hill so that six detached houses can be built on the site.
A planning application for the location—which is part of the greenbelt off Warwick Road and situated next to the Welcombe Hotel and golf course—has been submitted to Stratford District Council.
Although the 40-acre site has been designated as greenbelt, The Hill is an existing building that was converted to apartments in the 1960s. The land also contains a walled garden with former stables converted to workshops, greenhouses and storage buildings and a large former poultry building. Other buildings include a former lodge and a pair of cottages.
